The Recreation, one of Manchester’s brightest newcomers, return to the stage with a breathtaking EP written, recorded and produced entirely in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown of 2020. We chose the closing track from the EP ‘Always’ as our Track Of The Week
The Oldham four-piece take a huge leap forward into a raw, mature sound with poetry hiding in each line. The new cut places a particular focus on two characters: Tessa and Larry. “It derives from an inscription inside a Leonard Cohen poetry book I got at the start of lockdown,” says front-man Baldwin. “It struck me as interesting how much hope these two lovers, forty-four years ago, would’ve had for the future.”
On the cover art, Baldwin says, “Pink Floyd have been a massive influence whilst making this EP… Dark Side of the Moon is an expression of how the world was in the 70s, and it still rings true today; money still makes the world go round, which leads to greed, which results in conflict… The refraction artwork, to me, shows that no matter what the world teaches you to value, we must always ensure our output is one of love and compassion for others.”
