Manchester based indie trio, Vacant Weekend, are back with their last single ahead of the highly anticipated EP release later this week. ‘The Windowsill’ precedes the EP ‘Something To Fill The Silence‘, set to be released on 26th July.
After a year away with other commitments and musical projects, the band reunited and returned to their roots and started jamming together. Infused with their bands iconic lullaby-esque hooks, woven between jagged guitars and bright instrumentation. ‘The Windowsill’ gradually grows to its anthemic peak, constantly growing as the song progresses.
Of the single, they said “I think inside us there was a youthful naivety in the belief that our problems wouldn’t follow us – that they only existed in a certain place, at a certain time in our lives. Eventually the song took on another meaning about self-acceptance, ego death and experiencing life for as finite as it is.”
‘The Windowsill’ is the penultimate look into Vacant Weekend’s upcoming EP, ‘Something To Fill The Silence’. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Vacant Weekends’ own Isaac Dobson, and mastered by Tony Dixon at Cosmic Glue Studios in Stockport, the band have been able to capture who they are as a collective, resulting in an unapologetic, noisy, and groove-infused collection of cathartic songs.
“We’ve by no means reinvented the wheel, but this is an anthology of us, as we are right now” says Vacant Weekend “It’s a reflection on our time as teenagers, both in and out of this band, and where we stand in our lives and against society as we begin our twenties”
Hailing from Cumbria, Vacant Weekend are an alternative pop trio currently based in Manchester. Comprised of three school friends united by their passion for music, the band officially took shape in 2018. Drawing inspiration from disco, motown, and 2000s indie-rock acts like Two Door Cinema Club and The Wombats, they have crafted a distinctive sound loosely described as funk-inspired, groove focused, cathartic indie rock.
