Having seen the success of over 18,000 streams on their debut single, The Palava are returning with their latest single ‘Useless’, a feel good indie rock banger.
After forming over a drunken conversation between a group of mates from the small town of York, these lads have definitely started making all the right noises with their first couple of releases having amassed radio play from not only local sources but from national tastemakers too.
‘Useless’ is a track which utilises some syncopation within the drum pattern beautifully and almost feels like a call to the good old days of Two Door Cinema Club. Musically it can’t really be faulted as the lads clearly know what they’re doing.
My only small critical comment may be that there’s room to make the sound even more original, this track is great but I do feel like it’s in danger of falling into the category of sounding like a lot of other indie rock music. Something which wouldn’t be fair for a song of this standard.
Other than that, there’s not much that’s bad to say about this. If these lads keep on the path they’ve started I can see them on some great stages and would expect to hear a lot more of them in the coming years. A brilliant foundation which they have built.
