Gold Spectacles latest offering ‘Anywhere Else’, is a song which is nothing short of a song with the potential to be a huge tune and a very catchy one at that.
However, I feel this track just falls short in a couple of areas. ‘Anywhere Else’, by its very design as a track is a simplistic track with not much going on but is effective in saying what it needs to. I do feel though that in places such as the chorus the track could have switched it up a little bit and gained a new dynamic – adding a new guitar part or a new instrumental line or just something to add another layer. Anything along these lines.
As previously stated, Gold Spectacles have done a very good job of making a catchy track that delivers the exact messages that it needs to and just gets its point across. The vocal does stick out nicely in this track, with such a calm delivery that can be difficult but in this tune it is done amazingly.
Another part of this track which I feel is absolutely integral to its utter infectiousness is the synth line. The little countermelody which ticks along in the background is just out of this world, it’s one of the main parts of the track which I’ve found myself singing back even after the first listen.
‘Anywhere Else’ is a track which is written brilliantly in many ways and I’d absolutely love to hear it with just a couple of extra layers added. More to build some interest throughout a track which seems to stay in one place throughout without those changes.
