Ravellas are back with another incredible single! ‘Reputation’ is the next indie anthem from the Wigan band and their best song yet. ‘Reputation’ is being premiered here at The Pentatonic tomorrow (Monday 2nd April) at 10am.

We caught up with Ravellas frontman Mac to get to talk about him, the song and penguins.

Describe your new single ‘Reputation’ in 5 words:
3 and a half minutes.

What song would you compare ‘Reputation’ to most?
I can’t really pin point a song. It’s very Ravellas. We always have ideas, bands and songs as a reference of how we want the song to sound and then it just ends up sounding like us.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
Mango Tango.

On a scale of 1 to 9741 how good is ‘Reputation’ compared to previous singles?
The feedback we’ve got off everyone we’ve shown the tune to like labels, management and even just our mates, has been that it’s our best yet so hopefully people think the same.

But our other tunes are class so it’s hard to say…

What’s the meaning behind ‘Reputation’?
It’s about a lad who listens to what people say about a girl rather than just getting to know her and ends up missing out on a good thing.

What’s your favourite lyric from the song?
I wrote the whole song around the line “Ones dodged bullet, is another’s opportunity that just went begging.” It was the start of another tune that we tried to record when we were in the studio. The people we record with, Sugar House, didn’t mince their words and told us that it was a shit song. So we scrapped it, recorded something else but I saved that lyric.

A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
“You got any Mango Tango Crayons?”

(Besides learning how to introduce your songs), do you think you could get any better as a musician?
We were talking about this the other day. We all peaked in high school and if anything we’ve got progressively worse. Once I’d learnt how to play I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor I was like, that’s it. I don’t need to know anymore.

Describe the colour yellow to somebody who is blind:
I think Chris Martin beat me to it. He even wrote a song about it.

Which musician would you like to collaborate with?
Mike Skinner or Kanye.

Describe your life using film titles.
Lost In Translation

You’re on death row, what would your last meal be?
Lasagne for main.
Waffles and ice cream for afters.

Everyone has a good app idea. What’s yours?
Tinder for pigeons.

Why should people listen to ‘Reputation’?
So we can make some money.
