Finnish artist Sulevin Uni (also known as Juuso Nousiainen) released her nine-track album ‘Going Nowhere‘ on 15th November, describe by the artist as “A Journey Through Despair, Discovery, and Freedom”.
The opening song ‘Lost in the system’ creates a haunting and immersive atmosphere that sets the precedent for the album. The influences of Radiohead and Pink Floyd, Sulevin Uni has creates a eerie universe within the album with his meditative guitar and vulnerable vocals. Standout track ‘ADE’ gives more of an empowering feel to the album, whilst still following the internal dialogue that runs through the album. Sulevin’s ability to blend genres shines brightest on ‘Pineal Grand’, a folk-rock anthem that explores the expansion of consciousness. The song builds and flows as it progressing, following the deep dive of the narrative.
The inclusion of Finnish-language songs, ‘Mielikki’, ‘Aika Ajaton’, and ‘Kaunein’, adds depth and cultural texture to the album. ‘Mielikki’, with lyrics inspired by Finnish folklore, invokes nature’s healing power, while ‘Aika Ajaton’ poignantly portrays the perspective of a Parkinson’s disease patient, evoking a sense of otherworldly surrender. The choir piece ‘Kaunein’ closes the album with haunting beauty, its ethereal harmonies lingering long after the final note.
‘Going Nowhere‘ is an album that embraces the shadows and haunting atmosphere that are conjured by the lyrics and soft instrumentation, helping you find solace and freedom along the journey.
