‘I Should Have Known The Things You Never Said‘ is the fourth studio album by Icarus Phoenix. Deeply rooted in personal struggles and transformation, this record stands a raw testament to frontman Drew Danburry’s journey through a painful breakup and the complexities of co-parenting.
The urgency of intensity of the moment in captured in the recording process, with the help of Jed Jones at June Audio in Provo, Utah. In only three days in November 2022, Icarus Phoenix tracked a staggering 40 songs, eventually whittling it down to the ten tracks which tell the emotional narrative of the album. Being joined by longtime friends and collaborators, Jack Bellows of Neva Dinova on guitar, Justin Pacheco on bass and Andrew Young on drums, created a collaborative spirit to the album and additional inputs by Chaz Prymek (Lake Mary) and Rocky Cordray (Teleprom) creates the depth that mirrors the album’s emotional weight.
‘I Should Have Known The Things You Never Said‘ is a blend of melancholic indie rock and haunting folk, allowing Danburry to showcase his songwriting prowess. His lyrics and honest and raw, reflecting on the struggles of dealing with the bitterness and confusion of a relationship breaking. Despite the dark and confused narrative to the album there is an undercurrent of hope and determination that creeps into the album.
